K M Bahauddin

Renowned for his accomplishments as a leader of higher education institutions and his educational and cultural activism, the late Professor K.M. Bahauddin has contributed to shaping the public discourse in Kerala on many social issues.

Born on 3rd May, 1929, he grew up in the village of South Paravur, Kerala and went on to secure an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the Aligarh Muslim University and a master's degree in engineering from the University of Manchester. As an Engineer he was associated with many prestigious projects like the Malampuzha dam, Durgapur Steel Plant and Rourkela Steel Plant.

He also has taught at Aligarh Muslim University and Regional Engineering College, Calicut (now the National Institute of Technology) before becoming the Principal. He subsequently became the pro vice-chancellor of Aligarh Mulsim University and later the Executive Director of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi.

He was a member of the UR Ananthamoorthi Commission on education appointed by the Kerala Government and has been the founding member of a number of educational non-governmental organizations in Kerala such as the Muslim Education Society; Muslim Service Society; Centre for Information and Guidance India (CIGI); PM Foundation and the Forum for Faith and Fraternity. He is also the author of three previous books: Kerala Muslims: History of their Struggle (published in English and Malayalam), Kerala's Social Structure and Iraq War. Prof Bahauddin died in the year 2011 and Other Books published his Kerala Muslim History: A Revisit posthumously.
